Clean Out Spam With CleanTalk

When we first launched our Wordpress CMS version of Ruthenians.net we were inundated with comment and contact spam. The spam managers that were offered by our web host worked somewhat for filtering out email traffic, but did nothing to prevent the mis-use of either our contact form page or comments feature by marketers and miscreants, especially those in Ukraine and Russia, perhaps because of our domain name. We just returned from a week’s stay in the Yucatan Peninsula along what corporate hospitality markets as the “Mayan Riviera”. Once past the glittering opulence of the seemingly endless row of resort developments along the Caribbean beaches of the state of Quintara Roo, one sees the reality of how the indigenous Mayan people live in the selva, under thatched roofs of woven palm fronds covering smal one room makeshift cinder bliock hovels. Many work in the area’s only real industry, tourism; existing on incomes of less than $5 a day.

  The Grid. I employ a specific email address linked to our family site at Ruthenians.net used exclusively when sending email blasts out to an admittedly captive audience of family and friends after I've posted either a new item of vital importance and sage insight on our Blog or the latest video masterpiece depicting events from our family exploits and worldwide travails. Nobody ever responds to these messages, so I'm never sure if anyone bothers even to either read the email or view the posts. As a result, keeping this website going is a leap of faith, even for an septuagenarian agnostic...

ALONG THE ROAD OF LIFE I recently received an email response from niece Erin Osgood regarding an earlier message I had sent her announcing my upcoming visit to The Strait. In it she expressed her regrets that she and her family planned to be out of town taking their annual vacation to Maine on the same weekend I would be coming in. Maine. The last time I was "out East" in Maine was a little more than 40 years ago, in the Summer of 1972.
