Dubbed “The First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century. In her lifetime, she won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums.
The tracks on this playlist were culled from her most recent release — Ella At Zardi’s (Live At Zardi’s 1956); another live date titled 12 Nights In Hollywood (at the Crescendo Lounge) and finally two tracks from a studio date with the legendary pianist Oscar Peterson recorded in the mid-1980’s. It doesn’t get any better than this.
