DakhaBrakha — is a world-music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting traditional elements of sound and soul, the band, formed in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art «DAKH» by the avant-garde theatre director — Vladyslav Troitskyi, creates a world of unexpected new music they like to term “ethno-chaos”. The name “DakhaBrakha” is original, meaning «give/take» in the old Ukrainian language.
Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instruments, the quartet’s powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture.
DakhaBrakha features vocalists/multi-instrumentalists IRYNA KOVALENKO, OLENA TSYBULSKA, NINA GARENETSKA, and MARKO HALANEVYCH.
This playlist features songs from their latest album, Шлях (The Way) plus two from earlier releases.
Check them out “Live” at the 2019 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.
