Does Daylight Savings Actually Save Anything?

Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Every year in the Spring we get to perform this ritual where we give up an hour of our precious sleep time – an hour sorely needed to detach from the grid, spend some self-oriented QT pounding our ears, and renew our energies for yet another foray into the productivity war for the sole benefit of the neoliberals who created this cruel insanity of getting billions of hard working peons to surrender more of their precious freedoms in the first place.

Morality and The Forever War

Discourses With Robert Estrada.

Morality & The Forever War: Chapter Five of The Forever War Chronicles

The above image gleaned from a link on Facebook provided by Young Americans For Liberty provoked a spirited exchange between myself and my long-time colleague and frequent foil for political, social, and cultural discourse, Robert Estrada whom I originally met and befriended on my daily ferry commute to Tiburon where I was then indentured to the 1% for a decade and a half. The ideas and thoughts we shared during those brief excursions soon became the high point of my day – but then again I always regarded myself as a morning person plus, if truth be told the work I was doing was not that exciting anyway.

DISCOURSES WITH ROBERT ESTRADA

Armageddon Now and Forever – The Forever War Chronicles Chapter Six.

The above cartoon is the graphic inspiration for this discourse with my friend and fellow traveler exploring The Road of Life, Robert Estrada as we share points of view about the latest theater of The Forever War taking place in Syria.

“Of course the cartoon which rests in the minds of those who see militant Islamist beheadings, rapes, abduction into sex slavery, and wholesale slaughter upon religious lines as actually threatening would feature characters not with the crazed eyes of panic but rather the glazed eyes of those who fail to recognize an enemy until it Is too late…ala Neville Chamberlain.” — Robert Estrada

Desolation Row – A Neoliberal Endgame

THE POET

I just watched a video from 1992 of the 30th Anniversary Concert for Bob Dylan in association with Columbia Records, featuring the celebrant and a bevy of (then) label stablemates and guests, including Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder and a host of others, spinning their unique interpretations from Mr. Zimmerman’s voluminous songbook.

Neo-Liberalism: Antithesis of Democracy

  • March 15, 2014

In this interview on TaftTalks entitled “Neoliberalism, Youth and Social Justice“, Truthout contributor Henry A. Giroux discusses the basics of what can be seen as an ongoing and accelerating war between the rich and everyone else, an event that has resulted in a mass inability in his words “to translate private troubles into larger structural public considerations.”

The Enemy Of My Friend ….

A recent AP post decries the evidence culled from interviews with local soldiers, residents, officials and western diplomats, of a resurgence of al Qaeda activity in Southern Libya hysterically claiming local authoritites are “fighting a losing battle to stem the flow of armed militants with suspected links to al Qaeda who use (the area) as a freeway across Northern Africa”. The report further states that these insurgents are “restocking weapons and mining disaffected minorities for new recruits as it prepares to relaunch attacks” as a part of an historical pattern of retreating to remote areas to regroup.
